Mary F. (Hewett Roblin) Gitzen, Ph.D., 66, of West Lafayette, IN died June 22, 2012 while she and her husband were returning home to W. Lafayette from out of state. She was born October 14, 1945 in Buffalo New York, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth Yensan Hewett. Mary did her undergraduate work at D'Youville College, a Masters at SUNY Buffalo and taught English in Buffalo NY high schools for 22 years. In 1993 Mary came to Purdue University as a Liberal Arts graduate student, earning her Ph.D. Afterwards, Dr. Gitzen taught at Purdue in the Oral English Proficiency Program, until recently. Her marriage was to James F. "Jim" Gitzen on March 4, 2000 in West Lafayette and he survives.
