Cheryl Smith
Cheryl Hogue Smith began teaching at Kingsborough Community College in 2008. Prior to KCC, she taught at California State University, Bakersfield, and the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition to teaching, Cheryl is a Collaboration Coordinator for the Opening Doors Learning Communities and is the Humanities Course Coordinator for the College Now Program. She is a Fellow of the National Writing Project.
Cheryl’s areas of interest include composition theory and practice, rhetoric, college reading, critical thinking, basic writing, teaching online, and Shakespeare. She has a chapter published in the second volume of What is “College-Level” Writing? and has published in such journals as English Journal, The Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Teaching English in the Two-Year College, Journal of Basic Writing, and California English. She also publishes in Midsummer Magazine and Insights for the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
